Position: Law Enforcement Officer

Department: Police

Hours: Full-time, includes some nights and weekends

Hourly Range: DOQ

Closing Date: April 28, 2018

Position Overview: Receives training and performs a wide variety of police functions including, but not limited to; crime repression, crime prevention, protection of personal liberties, regulation of non-criminal conduct, and provision of services. Enforces city, state, and federal ordinances, statues, and arrest offenders. Performs first-aid and CPR when required and animal control and Code Enforcement issues. This is an entry-level position.

Minimum Requirements: Must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent. Must be at least 19 years of age and be a citizen of the United States. Possess a valid Florida driver's license. Shall not be convicted of domestic violence or any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury. Have completed police basic recruit training or high liability proficiency (if exempt from basic training) and pass the Florida State Certification examination. Must be fingerprinted by employing agency and processed by the FDLE, and the FBI.

After conditional offer of employment, have passed a pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, NOJOSI examination, review board, and background investigation.

We are pleased to report that the City of Valparaiso has received CDBG funds to improve the City’s sewer collection system.  In an effort to encourage participating contractors to hire Section 3 residents, we will have copies of a Section 3 Contact Information Form available at City Hall.  A copy of all completed forms will be provided to the awarded Contractor and Subcontractors should they need to hire additional persons to complete the project.   Please note, completing the Section 3 Contact Information Form does not guarantee your employment with the awarded Contractor and/or Subcontractors.
